Rolling along:45km

I can't believe I come on holiday and then keep getting up at 5.30 am...but anyhow, this is sunrise over the South China Sea, complete with some very keen early morning dippers.

Today's five-a-day: strange pinky green ball that was very much like a sour plum and I think the green crisp thing is a guava? Not keen.

However they did have an impressive array of sweeties.  The little things that look like fancy guest soaps are actually coconut jellies with fresh fruit and are surprisingly tasty.

So we were off on our bikes at 7am heading out of town north again.  You have to have a strong nerve to cycle in the rush-hour, although it being a Sunday it wasn't too bad as things go.  There may be traffic rules, but I am not sure anyone knows what they are.

See the bridge? It's has a 3 km span over the lagoon and that's where we're heading.  Beautiful riding out on a relatively calm morning such as this, not too hot (yet)

Doesn't it look peaceful?

These fishing nets look as though they are floating just on the water's surface.  The fishermen put tastey bait in the middle and lower the net, gradually lifting it back up to catch the fish.

And here we are at the other side.  The water in the fore ground is a shrimp bed, this area is covered with them.  See the wire that dips into the water? that's the power supply!

This is the essential support truck and holder of the iced water box.  At 35C this is an essential, part of the team!

In this photograph of my shadow it looks as though I have a little dashcund in the front carrier.  Don't tell,Magic!

Narrowly avoiding collision with an old lady on a moped driving the wrong way along the street I nearly ran into the birdman.  So sad seeing the birds caged and ready for sale.  Although a couple of miles down the road a chicken with a death wish would have been safer caged up!

We continued cycling along the coastal road, it's quite a gentle ride with three challenging hills.  Going up this particular one I was rewarded with such a beautiful beach

and seeing these cheeky chappies hoping over the rugged terrain,

The cows are all brown and bred for meat, whilst the ones below are used for drawing plough.

The bright green of theses if a lovely contrast.  But on and on we cycled

Think this cow just couldn't wait for the juicy grass.

Thesecows are wearing a mask until they are put in a field.  Without them they would just munch away on the crops and not take a blind bit of notice!

Most of the rural hoses are simple affairs, just a couple of rooms. The big mound,to the left of the house, is actually the hay stack.

When we first saw this happening we did wonder what was going on.  I need not to have worried, not a big open plan drugs production but seasalt beds.  Only in the hot summer months will they fill the reservoirs with sea water and by the time it has dried out you will have will have mound of Vietnamese salt.

All around this area are mangrove trees, they thrive on all the moisture.

 Mangrove swamp

This very colourful are fresh chillies out drying in the sun.

And this is lunch. We are so spoiled...it's really rather wonderful,

And this is a view of the beach from my lunch table.  But no time to stop, we still had a  many more miles to go :-(

But lunch was really tastey.  Not quite sure how to describe where we sometimes stop for lunch, butthey  are miles from the culinary map, but none the l less we liked it.

Our journey up to Hoi An was long and tiring.  If they just finished building the road that would be a start! These town had masses of these bonsai trees planted in the shallower of containers, not quite bonsi. But getting there!

This evening we strolled out for dinner at the Lantern hotel.  This is Lam's dimmer, aren't the roses fab. they are carved mini beetroot.

Mine doesn't look as tasty, but it was, you will just have to believ me.  It was chicken and vegetables cooked in bananas milk,
