Anokhi block printing museum

We had tried to visit this museum yesterday, but take note, it is closed on Mondays!  Not huge, it showcases both historical and contemporary blockprinting; but for lovers of all things textile it is worth hanging around for.

The scarf were very tempting, so it was a good job they were all behind glass!

These Balotra textiles.  Have a good squint at the lower image, see the cross stitch edging?  Must have a try at that on a quilt edge sometime soon.

As we were two and the museum was quiet we enjoyed seeing how blocks are carved, each receiving a mini flower block to take with us.  I am sure it isn't as easy as this chap makes it seem!

Then it was upstairs to see the blocks in action.

Again the speed and accuracy comes with practice,

Making sure the corners are turned square and each layer of pattern matches the previous ones.

I don't think we did too badly....

but suspect we need to stick with our potato mashers!!

The printing is done with fabric paints, which are left to 'cure' for several hours in the sun before being ironed.
