Blue pottery and (yet) more block printing!

Having a local guide means local knowledge, combined with having a driver = license to explore!

So we were able to pop into see this tiny 'factory' making the traditional blue and white pottery of Jaipur.  It's called a factory but really just looks like a back yard with a kilm plonked in the middle.

In reality the pottery was too chunky for my taste, but I just loved the slip boards...

and there is no doubt that their stash of fabric is larger than mine!

If any of the pottery is broken or spoiled in the firing process it can't be sold, so it goes off for mosaic work or in this case

used to decorate the loo walls.

Any way as we were pass I happened to spy some block printing going on, so we darted off to have a look at what was going on

Row upon row of blocks, those tied up in bundles are composite patterns.

Even the dirty dye bucket is a treasure.

At this moment they were busy printing length for sheets and pillow cases,

but, as always, they weren't so busy they couldn't down tools and explain/ show us the process.

So naturally when invited to have a go it would have been rude to refuse!

Not sure what Shyam thought about it all though.

As with Vietnam, the Indians are always playing motorbike Jenga - how many can we fit on one bike?

This lady is even riding sidesaddle, which when wearing a sari is really the only option.
