The road to Jodhpur - 2

Walking down and out of the Fort we chanced upon a wedding party, coming to be blessed in the temple.  Wearing the traditional red with hennaed hands and feet and covered in gold jewellery it was quite a sight, and they were more than happy to be photographed.  Laughing and giggling al the while!

Half way down we glimpse a view of the blue houses which are famous in Jodpur.  Made by mixing indigo with the plaster, it helps keep the houses cool and insect free.

Also it was another opportunity for sari watching.

Old tuctucks and

New ones...but we had our trust Shyam to take us to the next place....here

Built to commemorate various dead people in a mixture of Himdu, Muslim and Colonial architecture

and set in well tended gardens, beans trees

and marigolds.

We played shoe Jenga once more

As you always need to enter barefoot.

But going inside was worth it because it is constructed from a translucent marble...see the sunlight shining through?

The red rope is where prayer thread have been tied.

All this sight seeing is hungry work, but we had one more place to stop before we could eat.

So out we went, past the sitar player and back into a much welcomed air conditioned car.

Driving there we passes lengths of newly dyed turbon cotton drying in the sun.

And here is our destination - a huge warehouse of textile, old and new.  Heaven!

And look at all these rusty locks..

Textiles from around India, beautiful designs.

And then finally lunch, under a neem tree, cool and calm in the shade.  For the first time there were several cat strolling around, not seen any in India up until now.  This restaurant was hidden from view, when we stopped at the rather scruffy parade of shops we had wondered, but once we'd walked through it was an oasis of green.  As with so much in India, you have to trust your instincts and be prepared to be amazed.
